Whirly Bird Oatmeal Stout has been released! We couldn't be happier with this big, complex ale. It's working its way into the market. If you don't see it at your local retailer, ask for it and email me. I will make sure it gets there. As it shows up on tap, I will update. Again, only 1000 cases were produced so it is a very limited release. In other news... The hopyard is taking off! Despite the cold spring, well over half of the rhizomes have broke ground. We will be running the guide wires within the next 2 weeks. It's a relief to see rhizomes of each of the 11 varieties popping up. The barley looks terrific. We will put together some samplings including the Whirly Bird so you can preview it, keep an eye on the events part of the website!

Hey everyone, it's been a busy couple days.  In two days we were able to raise all the trellis posts for the hopyard as well as plant about 90% of our hops.  I've included some pics of the pole-raising.  Thanks to Nels from Goblirsch Dairy for helping us, he's helped us out with many projects at the brewery.  With the 2.5 acres we had leftover, we planted 2 row malting barley.  Check out Dave on the brewery's old tractor drilling in the seed.  We're looking forward to having hops and barley right outside the brewery door.  All this was done right before the rain came; hopefully this rain will give it all a great head start!  A couple weeks to Whirly Bird!  Been tasting it out of the fermenter and we're very excited with the beer.  We're going to be out and about doing some samplings, hope to see you there!

This Friday we will be tapping the first ever cask-conditioned ale from Brau Bros! Our very own local pub, the BrauHaus will host the event. At about 6:30 pm we will start serving a dry-hopped firkin of Brau Pale Ale – I’ll be pouring the pints. I believe pints are only $2. I know the BrauHaus is looking to make cask beer a regular on “Firkin Fridays”. Beth, thanks for the heads-up on a couple blog entries mentioning Brau Bros, here: and here:.It’s always great to hear from people who pronounce “Lucan” correctly on the first try.

We’re all recovering from the big St Patrick’s Day Parade here in Lucan. It’s the only parade you get to see twice, as it travels from one end of town to the other, makes a u-turn, and then back again. It’s a great tradition here in Lucan. If we can find some pics, we’ll post them. The New Ulm Journal did a great piece on the brewery, see it here: http://www.nujournal.com/page/content.detail/id/500119.html?nav=5005. Thanks Kurt for doing a tremendous job! Brady will be in St. James this Saturday at the Golf Course, stop in and have a pint with him! On Friday, March 28, we will tap our first cask of Brau Beer at the BrauHaus in Lucan. We’ll tap it around 6 pm, let’s make sure it’s dry by 8 – I’ll be there pouring pints. So stop in and get some firkin beer. Does Saturday, Oct 11 work for everyone for a beer fest here at the brewery? Clear that day – we’re working on the details.

Sorry bout the lag in web updates. We have finally transferred distribution power to those who know it best, and wow – have we been busy! It’s been tremendous going out and meeting the sales reps and those who will be helping us out in the field, we are blown away by the dedication and hard work shown. A HUGE thank you to the distributorships that are helping us through this process. Speaking of which, Mike Sorensen and I will be pouring beer this Thursday night at the International Culinary Institute in Burnsville - stop by and say hi! The next Single Batch Series Beer is going in the kettle this week!! Details to follow shortly. We have added a spot for email updates from the website, please sign up – it’s a great way to get good information directly from the brewer. We are putting the final touches on a fall festival to celebrate the release of the Ring Neck Braun Ale this October. A Non-Octoberfest Octoberfest. Should be a great excuse to visit us here at the brewery so clear your schedule for early October.

We have finalized nearly every inch of territory for the transition to distributorships. It’s been a blast selling directly and the connection we’ve been able to make between brewery and beer-drinker has been unprecedented. We are fortunate in that we have found distributors who were specifically looking for locally-produced craft beer. We are excited about their level of enthusiasm and willingness to expand on what we have established. We truly believe that their involvement will make our beers fresher and more widely available. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to let us know! We’ve already boosted production here at the brewery, as it has been extremely busy over the last few weeks. We have found a few cases of Ring Neck Nut Braun on shelves as we delivered Frame Straightener. If you haven’t tried it and would like to, let me know. Also, thanks to Minnpost for including us in a story concerning the hop shortage, read it here: http://tinyurl.com/3yyo42. When I get a minute, I’m going to sit down with a growler of our 2004 Dubbel and Trippel from the cellar. If I like, we will bring it to winterfest next month.

Jan 7, 2008 …Frame Straightener Ships!!!
Our newest ale has left the building. Over the course of the next week, this Belgian-style ale will find its way to your store shelves. Very limited production means when it’s gone, it’s gone. Ring Neck was completely sold out here at the brewery in less than two weeks, however we have almost doubled the number of cases of Frame Straightener. Don’t hesitate to email me and let me know what you think! Also taking ideas for future Single Batch Series beers! If you need help locating Frame Straightener or would like to request it at your favorite retailer, let me know and we will do our best to help out.
Take Care,
Dustin
